AU-EA Ambassador initiative
About the AU-EA Ambassador initiative
The AU-EA Ambassador initiative has been created in conjunction with AU-East Africa (AU-EA), AU's response to the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. The purpose of the AU-EA Ambassador initiative is three-fold:
- To raise money for the Wild Hope International in Tanzania. This will provide needed funding for a variety of Wild Hope ministries.
- To educate about and advocate for East Africa.
- To redefine beauty in a way that promotes true self-confidence and includes a lifestyle of service and compassion.
Any individual or group may nominate an AU female* student (freshman through junior) to participate in the program. An $80 entry fee (payable to Anderson University) must accompany each nomination. The nomination deadline is Jan. 22, 2010. To submit a nomination, use the online nomination form.
Nominees will be evaluated primarily by their current involvement in service as well as by project ideas that educate and advocate for East Africa. They will also be paired with an AU-EA mentor. The selected nominee will be announced at the end of the AU-EA Ambassador event on March 23, 2010, in Reardon Auditorium. This student will serve as the AU-EA ambassador and travel all-expenses-paid to East Africa this summer with an AU-EA team.
*A core component of this initiative — particularly in the heart of the founder, Emily Wasonga — is the redefinition of feminine beauty. This is why the initiative is for female nominees only.
Highlights from 2009 AU-EA Trip
2009 AU-EA Ambassador Amy Plooster has created a memory book and has shared photos from the 2009 AU-East Africa trip. In addition, Amy and other students kept a journal during the trip.
